Room News

Ducklings

Continuing our ‘All about me’ we have decided to change our role-play into a shoe shop as the children love trying on different shoes. This has involved measuring our feet, discussing small and little and making prints with different shoes. We will be looking at animal feet and focusing on a book called ‘Dancing feet.’ Also look out for our bumble bees we have made buzzing around the room. We have made a display based around ‘Our nursery family tree’ with lots of pictures of the children and talked about our friends and family. We will be focusing on different parts of our body and looking at books like ‘Brown bear brown bear what do you see/hear?

Children’s own shoes are now kept in the room above the pegs.

As the room is still a no shoe policy please could we ask

parents to remove their child’s shoes as well as their

own before going into the room. Many thanks.

Lambs

Thank you for all the parents who sent in pictures, we’ve made a lovely display of them all and the children love to look at them. Our role-play area is a great success and children have loved exploring and acting out experiences in their play learning from adults and their peers. Over the next two weeks we will be racing with paper pancakes and choosing our favourite toppings. We will use playdough in our imaginative play based around Shrove Tuesday, I’m sure we might even have pancakes for our pudding. We will also be planting some cress and observing it grow ready for our next topic – spring.

Owls

The children have started to really immersive themselves into our jungle theme room with all the decorative leaves, vines, and jungle animals. They have loved helping to create our learning environment from making jungle prints to pictures of animals and curly snakes. They are all becoming vets caring for the animals in the jungle and transporting them to the animal hospital to be looked after. Incorporating colours into our theme has been very beneficial as we are already noticing a change in children’s understanding of this topic and being able to recognise colours more confidently.

There is now some home activities based around our theme if you would like to borrow any, these can be found on the notice board above the coat pegs.

Don’t forget our meet and greet evening is on Thursday 23rd February, please book a time slot in the main office If you child will be moving up by October you should of all received a welcome pack.

The children are all making really good attempts at writing their names over the past month. We have enjoyed making self-portraits and talking about how we are special and different to each other. This month we have been concentrating on simple numbers and shapes. We have been exploring shapes around our environment and using shapes to create different patterns and pictures. Our next theme is numbers and we will be changing our role play area into a Bureau de Change and travel agents. With spring not too far away we will be planting some flowers in the garden. We are on the lookout for some old wellies as planters, if you have any we could have that we would be great
